The Dimensions

Solid granite worktops are 30mm thick and typically fabricated to 600mm in depth, the standard kitchen base unit depth. However, granite worktops can also be fabricated into bespoke depths up to 2400mm, often used for kitchen islands or breakfast bars. Worktop lengths can be any size up to 3200mm, the length granite slabs are cut for transit from mine to workshop.

The Design

Every kitchen is unique, wall dimensions and kitchen unit dimensions can vary, therefore granite worktops need to be designed to exact specifications. Clickgranite designers discuss the worktop design features with a customer and take accurate kitchen measurements before designing a worktop plan ready for templating. A detailed plan gives both the customer and Clickgranite clear instructions of what the customer has asked for.

A polished Cut-out

Holes, or cut-outs, are made in granite worktops to accommodate certain kitchen appliances. A polished cut-out is made for an under-mounted kitchen sink. The polished edges of the cut-out sit above the under-mounted sink bowl. Drainer grooves are cut into the granite next to the under-mounted sink, as well as a hole for a kitchen tap.

Cut-outs can also be made in the granite on top of a kitchen island or breakfast bar.

An unpolished Cut-out

An unpolished cut-out is made for sit-on kitchen appliances e.g. a kitchen hob. The granite cut-out is not polished because the cut is not seen when the appliance is sat on top of it.

Colour matching silicon adhesive is used to fix kitchen appliances on or under the worktop.

Upstand & Splashback

Upstand and splashback provide a stylish alternative to wall tiling. Upstand and splashback sit against the wall at the back of the worktop. Upstand has a height of 100mm. Splashback extends further covering all of the wall between worktop and kitchen wall units.

Clickgranite fabricates two thicknesses of upstand and splashback. The industry standard 20mm thickness, or bespoke 30mm 'chunky' upstand and splashback.

Worktop Joins

The average UK kitchen has approximately 6 meters of worktop; therefore multiple pieces of granite are required for granite worktops and may need to be joined together. Its important that joins are as close together as possible and that both edges are accurately straight. Clickgranite worktop fabricators and fitters take care to accurately fix adjoining pieces of granite together.

Square Edge Detail

Clickgranite use the popular square granite edge detail as standard for their granite worktops. Varied edge detail is also available to Clickgranite customers. Edge detail can be used to match unique kitchen doors e.g. a half round edge detail looks impressive with curved solid wood doors. The edge detail of granite worktops does not alter the durability of the worktops.
